CHULA VISTA, CA – On December 18, 2024, the Villa Serena community celebrated the holiday season with one big community event. Hosted by Villa Serena's PSCDC Resident Service Coordinator (RSC) Linda Leon and Property Manager Camilla Levia, residents and local vendors were invited to share food, win gifts, and foster the sense of community at Villa Serena.
Residents had a vast selection of food to choose from, with many households bringing something of their own to the potluck. Food ranged from rice, beans, mac and cheese, salads, and even a whole roasted pig to the event! Vannessia Carpet, a local vendor that works closely with the Villa Serena community donated the rice, beans, salsa, and tortilla chips for the potluck. Residents also pitched in ingredients for delicious tamales, which RSC Linda herself prepared and cooked the day of the event! For dessert, Sergio Rios from HD Supplies donated pies, cookies, and some bread loaves for the residents to enjoy.
The event was not short in entertainment either. Residents were invited to participate in a raffle, and piñatas were also donated by Ricardo Navarro for the festivities! Through the help of Property Manager Camilla and a considerable donation from another local vendor, Dr. House Plumbing, a raffle with $400 worth of gifts was held! Residents took home many home décor prizes including candles, hand lotions, TV, antennas, and even a few cash prizes! Guillermo Alfaro and GGM Insurance Services, who help inform Villa Serena residents with what they are entitled to through Medicare and Medi-Cal, also brought some prizes to be raffled off like blankets and robes.
"I really enjoyed watching them with the piñata," answered RSC Linda Leon when asked about her favorite part of the potluck. "Something about seeing my 93-year-old resident hitting the piñata and being so happy when it broke was so special. To see how happy they all were and to see that they still see themselves as youngsters."
"I love being the RSC at Villa Serena. I feel like I have parents and grandparents again. Through working here, I have gotten many mothering friends and many caring and dotting father figures. Even my kids enjoy it!"
With a healthy turnout of 56 residents participating in the community fun, RSC Linda planned a Valentine's Day friendship festival and party for the residents in February.
"I look forward to helping more residents this year. It is amazing to have a team that works together to omake things happen for residents."
