Pueblo Viejo Villas - Our Latest Affordable Housing Project in Coachella, CA

Within the heart of Coachella, the construction of another sustainability-driven affordable housing project headed by Chelsea Investment Corporation, in partnership with Pacific Southwest CDC and others, is already underway. Pueblo Viejo Villas, a massive 105-unit, family-centered development, is located at the northeast corner of 6th Street and Cesar Chavez Street in the downtown area of the City of Coachella. The new project will be a significant milestone to Coachella's Pueblo Viejo Master Plan, a long-term redevelopment plan for downtown Coachella.

Designed with sustainability and proximity to public transportation in mind, Pueblo Viejo Villas embodies the future of development in Coachella. The project will incorporate significant solar power offset via solar panels on the building and carports, bicycle parking for 52 bicycles, and trees to provide canopy and shading that is native and drought-tolerant to balance the landscape. With funding awarded from the Strategic Growth Council's Affordability Housing and Sustainable Communities program, with additional grants to the City of Coachella, Sunline Transit Agency, and CalVans, a new bus hub adjacent to the property was created to centralize all local bus lines nearby for residents to use. The public transportation benefits don't stop there. Sunline Transit Agency has expanded services on its most popular bus line with four more buses, and CalVans will implement 40 vans for vanpools to connect residents and others in the community to employment centers.

Pueblo Viejo Villas will be a mix-use site, with two retail spaces included in the development and 105-units with one-, two-, three-bedroom sizes of affordable housing targeted toward families. Of these units, ten will be set aside for individuals and families with at least one member who has a developmental disability in one- and two-bedroom sizes. Pueblo Viejo Villas will include (50) one-bedroom, (28) two-bedroom, and (37) three-bedroom units in a single building.

Additional features and accommodations will focus on the family population. There will be a community room that will incorporate the leasing offices and central laundry facilities. An outdoor play area will be adjacent to the community room. Parking will also be available on-grade and shaded by carports.

With the project expected to be finished by April 2022, PSCDC will be offering Pueblo Viejo Villas services such as job counseling, financial education, ESL classes, an afterschool program for children, on-site food distributions, and more.
