Holtville and Villa de las Flores shared their Mother's Day celebration on May 15th. Between the two properties, 51 residents were in attendance. A variety of Mexican food dishes and desserts prepared by attendees, property management, and PSCDC staff were brought to the potluck. Brawley Seniors and Imperial Gardens hosted their own Mother's Day celebration on the following day, May 16th. A total of 60 residents from both properties attended the special event. American breakfast foods like pancakes, eggs and bacon, sausages, and hotdogs, as well as shredded beef tostadas and plenty of dessert were prepared by residents, property management, and PSCDC staff. PSCDC Coordinator Veronica Iribe was in charge of cooking and serving food for this event.

During the celebrations at Holtville Gardens and Brawley Seniors, residents were surprised with raffle gifts prepared by PSCDC coordinators and property management. Among the raffle prizes were gift cards for meals and groceries, beauty products including face masks and lotions, and even a slow cooker!

Mothers, residents, and PSCDC staff alike enjoyed the special celebration. Community events is a core service PSCDC coordinators offer to residents. Senior properties in particular focus on assistance referred to as senior companionship; a program that provides residents with personalized, one-on-one resident support and opportunities to socialize.

"Our senior companionship prgram is a very essential program in not only in our senior properties, but also for seniors in family properties," said Juan Arroyo, Vice President of PSCDC. "It is an effort on our part to provide one-on-one grief support, companionship, resources, and more on a case management level. The service is quite popular, especially within our senior communities."

"Seniors love to get together and socialize, dance, and celebrate," said Luz Vallejo, PSCDC's Imperial Valley Director of Services. "It's always rewarding to see them enjoying themselves."

For Layla Perez, Villa de las Flores' PSCDC coordinator, the food brought to the potluck was the best part of the Mother's Day celebrations. "My favorite part of our celebration was all of the homemade delicious Mexican food dishes, and of course seeing my residents happy and dancing which they love to do at any celebration we have."

With Father's Day around the corner, the Imperial Valley PSCDC staff are preparing a special day to commemorate fathers!
