Hunting for Easter Eggs at Lakeside Apartments in San Leandro
At the start of April, Lakeside residents enjoyed scavenging for sweet treats during the Easter Egg Hunt, socializing at the block party, and getting creative during the egg painting event hosted by Haydee Pelayo Nuño, their PSCDC Resident Services Coordinator. Haydee worked closely with our long-time friends at Xfinity Communities and the parents of Lakeside Apartments to make this day filled with spring-themed fun possible.
"We continue to create meaningful memories as a community here at Lakeside," Haydee says. "The Easter Egg Hunt has been part of many annual events. After two years of being away because of the pandemic, we can reconnect and eat together as a community."
Over the past two years, Haydee has been able to keep traditional events alive by hosting safe distributions which let residents receive goodies to enjoy at home. However, April marked the return of in-person community events. An estimated 30-40 residents came to participate, including the Lakeside youth. The spring-themed event started with egg painting to kick off the event, with residents receiving an egg to paint, color, and decorate. Each attending resident received a basket for the egg hunt donated by Xfinity Communities, who gifted the plastic eggs filled with candy in the Easter Egg Hunt. After spreading the eggs around the lawn in front of the community center and enjoying some food and desserts, the children took turns hunting for treats based on their age group. Throughout the event, residents stayed safe while having fun by following basic health precautions such as reminding residents to stay home if feeling ill, hand sanitizing, encouraging facemasks, and distancing whenever possible.
Contributions from parents significantly helped make the event possible, providing pizza, cupcakes, cookies, drinks, chips, eggs, and candies. Thank you to all the mothers who helped and Xfinity Communities for supplying the materials to make the egg hunt possible!
When asked about her favorite part of the day, Haydee highlighted one particular aspect. "My favorite part of the event was the community coming together again like we used to before COVID. Seeing the young residents happy to participate in the egg hunt, the smile on their faces receiving a basket, and eating together in the same room."
Next month, Haydee is looking forward to celebrating Mother's Day with arts and crafts projects for the children to take home to their mothers and other surprises!
