PSCDC Steps Up Safety Precautions As More Local Donations Come In To Support San Diego Households
During these difficult times, PSCDC is incredibly thankful for the opportunities to continue hosting essential food distributions for San Diego residents. Even before the preventative measures for COVID-19 were in effect, local donations from food banks, stores, restaurants, non-profits, and individuals have played a vital role in the availability of resources that we can distribute. Now, our partners' unyielding support has helped us to continue providing numerous families and households with food. Throughout June, San Diego Resident Services Coordinators, in coordination with our partners at Friends & Family Community Connection (FFCC), have been able to serve a total of 16 senior and family properties and hosted 25 distributions for food, food boxes for seniors, bread, and even other essentials.
PSCDC holds the health and safety of all our residents and staff before all else. The San Diego PSCDC team has updated our food distribution protocols, requiring residents to wear masks and to stand eight feet apart when waiting outside during food distributions. Checking temperature of participating staff and volunteers before food distributions was also put into effect. All San Diego staff are food safety-certified as part of our on-boarding process and food distributions are pre-bagged for quick distributions. Through out partnership with SDG&E and National City Chamber of Commerce, the San Diego Resident Services Coordinators were able to secure more PPE gear to continue hosting distributions.
PSCDC San Diego properties served included Crossings, Fair Banks Ridge, Fair Banks Terrace, Fair Banks Square, Rancho Del Norte, Torrey Highlands, Seabreeze, and Windwood, with some properties served twice. To expedite the food distribution process, volunteers from Friends & Family Community Connections have assisted our PSCDC Coordinators during these distributions. Along with the much-needed volunteers, FFCC also supplied us with restaurant-made meals, grocery store items, and other shelf-stable food to pass out throughout San Diego County. Over the past months, PSCDC and FFCC have partnered together to help supply struggling communities, families, and individuals with food. They are a significant source of food donations that keep our food distributions possible. As a local non-profit organization that helps communities worldwide, FFCC depends on donations to continue providing essential services, and PSCDC urges everyone to support them. For those who are able, FFCC is accepting monetary donations at their website here. You may designate your tax-deductible donation to "Local COVID-19 Relief," and 100% of your contribution will go to support local families in San Diego. FFCC also has designated locations for food and item donations.
World Market in Oceanside also contributed to the food distributions by supplying the San Diego team with two pallets worth of snack items and other non-perishable items that were shared at various properties throughout the county. This donation follows their Rancho Bernardo's donation of the high appreciated spring-themed decor in April.
Due to COVID-19, the Class of 2020 were unfortunately unable to celebrate their academic success with friends and families, however, a generous donation from 4S Ranch Del Sur residents Tom and Tange Gavin gave local graduates the recognition they deserved! A donation of $2,000 were given to graduates, with a total of 20 graduates receiving $100 each. The Gavins also provided an additional $1,000 for families dealing with rent hardships! PSCDC would like to sincerely thank Mr. and Mrs. Gavin for their selfless donation and bringing some joy and recognition to the hard-working Class of 2020. Congratulations Class of 2020!
