May and June Wrap-Up: Imperial Valley and Coachella Food Distribution
During the months of May and June, PSCDC Resident Services Coordinators have continued their essential service of food distributions for Imperial Valley and Coachella families. With the incredible support and donations from our local food banks and food providers at Imperial Valley Food Bank, U.S. Department of Agriculture’s The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), FIND Food Bank in Coachella, and Faith Assembly, the PSCDC team received plenty of food to be distributed to over a thousand households! PSCDC is extremely grateful to be able to partner with these local organizations, whose missions are to serve the people of Imperial and Coachella.
In the month of May alone, PSCDC Resident Services Coordinators were able to assist 1170 households and 3592 individuals with fresh food and vegetables. In order to prepare for food distributions, PSCDC Coordinators create pre-packaged, grab-and-go bags within the food banks themselves while observing appropriate safety precautions. With so many households attending food distributions throughout our various properties in Imperial, this would result in several pallets filled with food!
In June, PSCDC received some kind food donations from a local church organization in Imperial Valley, Faith Assembly. Their first contributions on June 4th was a donation of 240 boxes of fruits and vegetables for the residents of Villa Lara, Las Palmeras, and Imperial Gardens. They also continued their support with donations on June 11th and the 18th where they donated about 90 extra boxes for the seniors in Imperial Garden! The numbers for June’s distributions amounted to 1098 households and 3446 people participating in the distribution.
If you are interested in making a difference in your community, the PSCDC teams in Imperial and Coachella are looking for volunteers to help assist with food distributions! With a huge surge of families attending food distributions, we would appreciate any volunteers to help keep our food distributions quick and smooth for everyone involved. If you’re interested in signing up, you can do so by going to our ‘Donate & Volunteer’ page and signing up, contacting your nearest PSCDC Resident Coordinator or property, or contacting Luz Vallejo at (760) 332-8034.
