Helping Our Residents Blossom with Spring Health Fair
Last April, our residents from Villa del Sol, Calexico Family, Villa Dorado, Villa Primavera, and Villa de las Flores all attended an amazing health fair aimed to teach how important and fun living a healthy lifestyle can be. The health fair was filled with activities for all ages. To fuel the event, healthy foods like corn on the cob, variety of fruits, and home-made ceviche de cauliflower were provided.
Our mission at Pacific Southwest CDC aims to provide the greatest positive impact to all of our communities. In association with the University of California San Diego, the Pacific Southwest resident services coordinators used their CATCH training to provide an outlet for the community to get active and interact with each other.
As the hope for the future, children were treated to fun events that aimed to instill a love of play, exercise, and community. Kids were running around, laughing, and enjoying themselves while participating in Dragontail, Blob tag, Fire Brigade, canvas painting and bean bag toss which were provided by Paul Tabarez and Christopher Gomez Wong.
Older residents were not left out of the fun either. While the children were kept active and happy, the adults were educated by CalFresh's Martha Lopez and Yu Meng along with the Imperial Valley Food Bank's Jesse Aguirre on keeping a healthy lifestyle and how to prepare tasty home-cooked meals for their families.
Without our partners at Imperial County Department of Social Services, Sure Helpline Crisis Center, Neighborhood House, LGBTQ Imperial County, California Psychcare, Imperial Valley Food Bank and UC Cooperative Extension Imperial County, the fair would not have been such a success. PSCDC would like to extend our sincere thanks for helping us host the fair for our residents.
